On a Dark and Stormy Night...
The Claremont Colleges Braineaters
The Claremont Colleges' 5-C Ultimate Frisbee team, the Braineaters, was founded in 1979 at Pitzer College with the team name stemming from a 1950's B-movie title. Made up primarily of Pitzer students, the Brains played their first games against teams such as Oxy and Redlands. Founded on the principals of good spirit and fair play, the early teams were led be people such as Jeff Landesman and Howie Wein (check out the pictures from the early days in our gallery).
Throughout the 80's the team expanded across the 5 colleges, steadily bringing in more and more Pomona and Harvey Mudd students. The late 80's and early 90's saw the Brains establish themselves as the strongest small school Ultimate team in SoCal. Led by captains such as Travis, the Jeremy Dugan, Josh Seamon, and Sven Moller, the team climbed to their highest national ranking in 1998 - 47th. 2002 marked the 23rd year of Ultimate in Claremont with the team continuing to make strong showing at perennial tourney favorites such as the SoCal warm-up, President's Day, and the January SB tourney.
More than anything, the Claremont Braineaters hold themselves to the high standard of play combined with sheer intensity and enjoyment of the game. Here's to the hella wicked sweet decades of Claremont Ultimate to come.
EBO-LAY-LAY!
